Donna Mills (Cobeso Inc.) 2019 Excellence in Business Award | New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce
Cobeso Inc. is a health insurance agency located in Fishkill, NY, founded by Donna Mills. When asked why she started her business, she said, “I had been working in different corporate organizations over the years in the insurance industry and realized I can do this. Not for someone else but for myself. I wanted to make my own way and run my business the way I wanted it ran — with integrity and pride. For me, being in business is about so much more than just making a living but the relationships you build with the people you work with and the people in the community. I believe in the importance of educating and servicing the companies we work with like they are my own.”
Mill’s emphasis and value on interpersonal relationships through her business is why she has received the Excellence in Business Award. This award recognizes a Hudson Valley Business that is a leader in its field and has demonstrated commitment to its employees, customers and clients and to furthering business in the Hudson Valley. Cobeso focuses on maintaining a cost-effective benefits program for its’ customers based on their individual needs.
Most New Paltz locals have heard of Asian Fusion, located on main street, but what about the face behind the popular Pan-Asian eatery? Well, it’s our pleasure to introduce Ada Xiao, this year’s Business Person of the Year award winner!
The Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize a business that demonstrates long term business success, strong community involvement, demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a changing business world, innovative business strategies, and recognized business leadership as a role model. This year’s award winner embodies all of the above qualities.
Dawes Septic and Repair, born in 1952 under the name B&G Dawes Inc. is a family-owned-and-operated company. Started by Henry F. Dawes, it was passed down to his son, Chris Dawes, who then passed it down to his son Carl Dawes and his wife, Becky.
“That is my mission, to run a business that is entrenched in the community, to have a place (and a service) that transcends the goods sold and moves solidly into the realm of bringing people together and making people happy. That’s what it means to me, to be a part of the NPRCoC, and a part of the surrounding community — I view it all as an opportunity to help people out, even if it’s something as simple as turning someone’s shi**y day around with a smile and a great piece of pizza!”

LACE Photo Media is a full service brand strategy and design firm led and created by two very talented and hard-working sisters, Alicia and Lucia Civile. Lucia Civile is this year's Emerging Young Leader award winner.
The brain-child that is LACE Photo Media came to life when Lucia decided to leave the corporate world. She said, “After working in and leaving an unhealthy corporate environment after several years, I realized I needed a big change. I couldn't imagine working for anyone else ever again or missing out on time with my son, so the decision to start LACE Photo Media was born."
And what a great decision that was. Lucia told us that her philosophy towards work is, “Always be passionate about what you do and the ‘why’ behind what you do.” Passion is a huge driving force of success which has led to the work of LACE Photo Media being featured in L’Officiel, Jeffbullas.com, Conde Nast Traveler, Hudson Valley Parent and even Forbes!
