Mills’s desire to run a business with integrity and pride has led to her creation of a business that is employee-and-client-oriented, and exactly what we were looking for when choosing a recipient for the Excellence in Business Award. We are all so thankful to call Donna Mills a member of the New Paltz Chamber and to have been able to celebrate this accomplishment with her at the Business Recognition Awards Dinner. Congratulations again, Donna!
Donna Mills (Cobeso Inc.) 2019 Excellence in Business Award | New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce
Cobeso Inc. is a health insurance agency located in Fishkill, NY, founded by Donna Mills. When asked why she started her business, she said, “I had been working in different corporate organizations over the years in the insurance industry and realized I can do this. Not for someone else but for myself. I wanted to make my own way and run my business the way I wanted it ran — with integrity and pride. For me, being in business is about so much more than just making a living but the relationships you build with the people you work with and the people in the community. I believe in the importance of educating and servicing the companies we work with like they are my own.”
Mill’s emphasis and value on interpersonal relationships through her business is why she has received the Excellence in Business Award. This award recognizes a Hudson Valley Business that is a leader in its field and has demonstrated commitment to its employees, customers and clients and to furthering business in the Hudson Valley. Cobeso focuses on maintaining a cost-effective benefits program for its’ customers based on their individual needs.
We asked Mills of any mentors that may have impacted her on her present career path. She said, “This is probably one of the hardest of the five questions just because I really do attribute so much to the people I have had the pleasure of surrounding myself with. The people that have helped me grow, had faith in me and shown me paths I never knew existed just by questioning and pushing me to further myself as business owner & personally. I have a few mentors; Tracey McDaniel, Gloria Cukar, Joyce Minard and Brud Hodgkin’s are the ones that stick out the most, the men and women who were colleagues, friends and now truly are my family.”
Donna Mills continues to expand her network as an active member in the New Paltz Chamber since she joined in 2011. She is even a corporate sponsor of the chamber’s women’s organization, The WOW Factor. When we asked her what it means to her to be a part of the chamber, she said, “The work that the New Paltz Regional Chamber is doing in the community is unmeasurable to help people connect with one another and grow their businesses and to grow individually as people as well. I personally hope to impact the Hudson Valley in a way that helps our local economic community flourish now and for the future. We as a small business owe a huge amount of our success to the relationship we have built with the chamber as well as its members over the last ten years. I see a great importance in supporting the local women’s organizations in our area especially I see a great power in lifting up the women around ourselves. I know some of my personal empowerment has come from some of the wonderful women in the Hudson Valley community & with these women’s support & encouragement it helped me grow and move forward. It is important to mentor and support the leadership coming up behind us as well as learning from them as well.”
