Historic Huguenot Street Hands-On Archaeology Workshop
DuBois Fort Visitor Center
On Saturday, August 24th, Historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz will host a Hands-On Archaeology Workshop in a real, working dig. Participants will be digging in a fresh, on site, learning about the latest discoveries of the SUNY New Paltz Field Archaeology School, which is currently conducting a dig on the Street, and about archaeology in general. Prepare to get your hands dirty! Under the direction of Meredith Gorres, a SUNY Archaeological Field School alum, you’ll learn about the hows and whys of archaeology, and experience how this real live treasure hunt is changing our understanding of the history of the Street. The Churches of Huguenot Street
William Rhoads, Professor Emeritus of Art History at SUNY New Paltz, will lead a walking tour of the historic churches of Huguenot Street. The tour will begin at the reconstructed French Church (or House of Prayer), originally built of stone about 1717, and proceed to the site of the second stone church (dedicated 1773) before concluding at the 1839 brick church with classical portico, today’s still-active Reformed Church. Professor Rhoads will point out how the exteriors and interiors of the buildings reflect the architectural styles of their time and place, as well as the religious beliefs of their builders. Taste the wines from all wineries on the Shawangunk Wine Trail as well as several others from around the Hudson Valley region. Enjoy tastes and dishes from area restaurants, epicurean delights, farm fresh produce, and Live Music! Advance ticket sales end Friday, July 23, 2010 at 6pm. Wine Taster advance ticket price includes sales tax of 8%.($25 + $2 = $27) - includes wine glass, wine tasting at all wineries at the festival. Designated Driver price includes sales tax of 8% ( $5 + $.40 = $5.40) - includes entrance into the festival. Event is held regardless of weather. All tickets sales are final. NO REFUNDS.
