"Under Glass -- A Group Show"
Mark Gruber Gallery, New Paltz
The Mark Gruber Gallery presents a special show of works on paper. "Under Glass -- A Group Show" is dedicated to pastel, watercolor, silkscreen prints, and a variety of drawing materials. This exhibit will open on Saturday, March 31 and run through May 16, 2007. Unlike canvas, paper is a versatile material that handles pencil, ink, watercolor, pastel, and oil paint in a variety of desirable ways lending texture or lack thereof to the final creation. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, March 31 from 6-8 PM. Wine and cheese will be served. The public is cordially invited to attend this free event and meet the artists. The Mark Gruber Gallery is located in the New Paltz Plaza (Super Stop and Shop), New Paltz, N.Y. 12561. Gallery hours are: Monday 11-5:30; Tuesday-Friday 10-5:30; Saturday 10-5:00; Sunday 12-4. Mohonk Preserve Singles and Sociables Hike
Compass Rock
Singles and Sociables outings welcome all adult hikers, single and non-single, aged 18 and above. No reservations are required. Meet at the Coxing Trailhead. This is a moderate, 7-mile hike. This program is free to Mohonk Preserve members and $9 for non-members (includes a day pass which allows hiking access to Preserve lands for a full day, sunrise to sunset, and can be credited for up to two weeks towards a membership).

Unison Arts & Learning Center offers a two-day arts workshop entitled Raku and Ferric Chloride Fuming with Bill Shillalies on Saturdays, May 5, from 11am-1pm and May 12, 11am-4pm. King Lear
McKenna Theatre, SUNY New Paltz campus
William Shakespeare’s tragedy of immense scope and consuming force, King Lear, is presented by the Department of Theatre Arts at SUNY New Paltz, April 26 - May 6. The production features professional actors in two key roles. George Judy performs the role of the beleaguered King, and Brendan Burke (Shadowland Theatre) plays the Earl of Gloucester, Lear’s ally who gains true insight and wisdom only after he is blinded. King Lear is performed April 26, 27, 28, and May 3, 4, 5, at 8 p.m. Matinee performances on April 29 and May 6 begin at 2 p.m. Running time is approximately 150 minutes. Tickets to King Lear are $16 for adults, $14 for students and seniors. All seats are reserved. They may be purchased online now at www.newpaltz.edu/theatre under the production link. The box office is staffed beginning April 16. Call (845) 257-3880. McKenna Theatre is wheelchair accessible.

Spaghetti and Matzo Balls
Unison Arts & Learning Center
Unison presents Spaghetti and Matzo Balls ­ Rena Strober with Bill Gulino on Saturday, May 5 at 8pm. Incorporating the works of Irving Berlin, Billy Joel, Lerner & Lowe, Tom Waits and her grandma Sunny's Yiddish songbook, Rena Strober's one-woman show "Spaghetti and Matzo Balls" is an original take on the great tradition of Judeo/Christian/Urban Angst cabaret.
