A Year Round Destination
Whether you’re a hiker, a biker, a climber or just in need of some rest and relaxation, New Paltz has plenty to offer - miles of scenic trails, the Shawangunk mountain ridge and the Hudson River to enjoy. New Paltz’s charming Main Street is packed with unique shopping, dining and places to wander, with interesting historical and cultural stops along the way.
History
A National Historic Landmark District since 1985, Huguenot Street in New Paltz is the site of six original stone houses, the earliest dating to 1692. Tours are available from May through October, but you can stroll and admire the houses inhabited by our ancestors any time of year. Visit Historic Huguenot Street's website for more information.

The Taste of New Paltz is a wonderful way to experience our area with a "taste" of just about everything! Held this year on September 14, 2008.

ART, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE
The artistic side of New Paltz includes potters, photographers, painters and the performing arts.
One such venue, fantastic for a rainy day, is the SUNY New Paltz School of Fine & Performing Arts(www.newpaltz.edu/artsnews). The School produces dramas, musicals, dance and premier classical musical events, and also hosts the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (www.newpaltz.edu/museum), which houses a permanent collection specializing in 20th century works, Asian and Pre-Columbian art and artifacts and metals
on their premises.

Kayaking and Canoeing
Bring your kayaks or canoes and join us on the enchanting Wallkill River.
Directions:
There are four points of entry to get to the Wallkill River in New Paltz:
1. Behind the Ulster County Fairgrounds off Libertyville Road--just go through the gate and straight back to the river.
2. Another is on a road leading past the pump station just after the bridge on Springtown Road.
3.There is another entry point further north on Springtown Road in an area put aside by DEC just a few miles out of town.
4. Another boat launch is on Plains Road in New Paltz off of Water Street, which is the last left-hand turn before crossing the bridge in downtown New Paltz on Route 299 West, at Sojourner Truth Park (next right after crossing the Rail Trail on Plains Road).
